UPDATE FROM THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHAPTER OF THE AAPM

Dear Southern California Chapter members: We are writing to inform you that we have made the decision to postpone the Spring Meeting and also the Norm Baily Awards, to coincide with our Fall Meeting. We have all been affected in one way or another by the pandemic and the prudent thing to do is to cancel so that we can focus on our critical duties and staying well; the health and safety of our members, students, venue staff, and public are our greatest concerns. Universities and venues are closing or restricting access to mitigate virus spread, and we understand that it is difficult for our students, residents, and post-docs to participate in research competitions right now as well. If you have already registered for the Spring Meeting, we will refund your registration fee. We will of course update you when we have more information about the Fall Meeting. These are uncertain times and we hope you are staying safe and sane out there.

Sincerely, your AAPM-SCC representatives

Innovative Techniques in Radiation Therapy
and
The Role of CAMPEP in Medical Physics

The Southern California Chapter of the AAPM will once again sponsor a Midwinter Symposium on Friday, January 23, 2009. The meeting will be held in the 21st floor Roof Garden of the Sheraton Universal Hotel. Medical physicists, medical physics graduate students, physicians, dosimetrists and radiation therapists are encouraged to attend.

The program will last all day and will include a complimentary continental breakfast, lunch and two coffee breaks. The format will be lectures, with questions afterward. At lunch time a number of Platinum sponsors will give 10 minute presentations on new products of interest. Approximately 20 vendors are expected to participate and each will have a table top exhibit in the same room as the lectures. Up to seven hours of Continuing Education Credit is being sought for CAMPEP MPCEC, AAMD and ASRT credits. Educational objectives include providing information on the latest techniques in IMRT and Image-Guided radiation therapy, review of current developments in radiation biology and interaction with academic and professional leaders in medical physics from across the United States.
