Norm Baily Awards
The Norm Baily Award has two award categories: a graduate and a post-doc/resident category. Any graduate student in a medical physics program in Southern California is eligible for the Graduate Student Award and any medical physics resident or medical physics post-doctoral fellow is eligible for the Resident/Post-doctoral Award. Pre-qualified Norm Baily participants will be invited to present a 6-minute talk describing their work and potential 2-minute questions. They will be scored during the Norm Baily Awards Ceremony by a panel of judges on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Award Certificates and cash prizes will be awarded to the winners in the Students and Residents/Postdoc Categories, respectively.
MedPhys Slam
Additionally, all students/residents/post-docs are invited to participate in the MedPhys Slam Event! This is a research communication competition that will be judged on April 27 LIVE on the day of the Norm Baily Award. Presenters have 3 minutes to give the what, how, and why of their research or clinical project and convince a panel of judges that their work is impactful and important. The first-place winner will be determined for the Slam event that day and will represent our chapter at the National MedPhys Slam Competition to be held at the 2024 AAPM Annual meeting in Los Angeles. The second-place winner will serve as a back-up. Award certificates and cash prizes will be awarded to the winners.
To enter into the events:
Norm Baily contestants must submit a 300-word abstract of their work with an optional 2 pages of supporting documents (up to 750 kBytes) no later than midnight on Sunday April 21, 2024. All submissions should be e-mailed to Steve Goetsch at: steven@sdradiotherapy.com.
MedPhys Slam participants should e-mail Steve Goetsch at: steven@sdradiotherapy.com to indicate their participation.
We encourage all students, postdocs, and residents in Southern California to participate in these events. Note: you may enter one or both events as a contestant.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHAPTER OF THE AAPM |
||||||||||||||||||
We hope this message finds you healthy and well. The AAPM Southern California Chapter would like to announce the Fall Meeting will be held on Thursday,
October 15 from 5:30-6:30pm. In keeping with tradition, we will be hosting representatives from the California Radiologic Health Branch to discuss updates to regulations. The speakers will
be able to address any questions you may have as well. This year, however, the talks will be held virtually, via GoToMeeting. We understand that a lot of us are experiencing "Zoom fatigue" and
appreciate your patience.

UPDATE FROM THE SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CHAPTER OF THE AAPM
Dear Southern California Chapter members: We are writing to inform you that we have made the decision to postpone the Spring Meeting and also the Norm Baily Awards, to coincide with our Fall Meeting. We have all been affected in one way or another by the pandemic and the prudent thing to do is to cancel so that we can focus on our critical duties and staying well; the health and safety of our members, students, venue staff, and public are our greatest concerns. Universities and venues are closing or restricting access to mitigate virus spread, and we understand that it is difficult for our students, residents, and post-docs to participate in research competitions right now as well. If you have already registered for the Spring Meeting, we will refund your registration fee. We will of course update you when we have more information about the Fall Meeting. These are uncertain times and we hope you are staying safe and sane out there.
Sincerely, your AAPM-SCC representatives

American Association of Physicists in Medicine Southern California Chapter The Southern California Chapter of the American Association of Physicists in Medicine wishes to announce the Norm Baily Award competition for 2012. There will be two divisions again this year: any graduate student in a medical physics program in Southern California is eligible for the Graduate Student Award. And any medical physics post-doctoral fellows and medical physics residents are eligible for the Postdoctoral and Resident Award. Winners will be notified by April 23 and will be expected to attend the May 8th chapter meeting at the UC Irvine University Club, where the prizes will be awarded (details will follow). A cash prize of $500.00 and award certificate will be awarded to each of the three winners in each category. One 15 minute presentation will be made by the highest vote getter in each category after dinner that evening. We will follow the AAPM format: students should send a 250 word abstract with optional 2 pages of supporting documents (up to 750kBytes) no later than midnight on April 9 th. All submissions should be e-mailed to Steve Goetsch at: stevegoetsch@sdgkc.com We encourage all students, postdocs and residents in Southern California to participate in this program.
